You have a bedroom all your own but it’s important to look after it so as to keep that top quality and comfort to your liking. Here are some care tips that you can follow:
Washing instructions for Bed Linens
Quality linens are made to last. Machine washing is the best way to care for luxury linens as it restores the ample loft of volume of the fabrics and accentuates the inherent texture and luster of the natural fibers.
Use only moderate temperatures for both washing and drying. Always wash white, colored, and dark fabrics separately. Select a mild soap such as a special Linen Wash, or Ivory. Specialty fabric soaps are best. Never use liquid fabric softener, bleach or any detergent containing bleach. Don’t use color safe bleach, or bleach for unbleachables. If you are not sure, it is best not to use the product. Make sure all soap is thoroughly rinsed out.
It is best to machine wash these bed linens on a gentle cycle without any other types of articles, in a small to moderate size load. Never wash with towels, blue jeans, or any other articles that can scour the surface of the fabric.
Do not use “water saver” settings. These fabrics will last much better if they have lots of water to swim around in. When water is limited, the fabrics will scrub against themselves. This is also why you should never overload the machine.
Machine-dry on delicate at moderate temperatures, but never over dry. Remove immediately at the end of the cycle. If pressing, it is recommended that ironing be done while the fabric is still slightly damp.
Coverlets are machine washable using cold water and a specialty fabric wash and tumble dry using low temperature and gentle cycle.
A duvet is very easy to care for, but there are a few things to keep in mind.
Always, always, always use a duvet cover. Caring for your duvet and pillows will prolong their life, and in return they will give you a more comfortable sleep.
Spot Cleaning
For spots, you can knock the fill away from the area, and spot wash with a mild soap. Rinse the affected area thoroughly with water and dry thoroughly. Make sure the down fill is completely dry. Any clumps of down should be pulled apart and dried again. Drying can be done either outside; with a hairdryer on medium heat, or in a large capacity dryer on medium heat. Never use high heat. If the spot is pet urine, take the duvet immediately to a professional cleaner.
Complete Cleaning
Only clean a duvet if it needs it – that is if it is soiled. A duvet can be dry-cleaned if done properly. Only use a good quality, reputable dry cleaner. You should air out a dry-cleaned duvet before use.
Storing Duvets
When storing a duvet, always place the duvet in a fabric cover that can breathe. Plastic can trap moisture, and lead to mildew problems.
For Regular, Standard and Queen pillows, wash them in pairs.
Use the maximum water level, and an extra rinse cycle with a pure soap and medium temperature water. Do not bleach. If any water is still left in the pillow after the rinse, squeeze out the excess water.
Machine dry pillows separately at medium temperatures. This may take several cycles but dryer balls will help speed up this process. Feel the pillow all over and pull apart any clumps that may have formed, and tumble dry again. Your pillow will come out of the laundry as puffy as they were when new.
